I'm curious as to what media players people use and your preferred file type they have for the player.

I have used quite a few but get bored of them quite easily. WMP11 is on my system out of necessity as my vision m prefers it, I have used winamp but that really bugged me for some time.

I now use songbird which is a open source media player in the vain of those nice people at Mozilla.

Preferred file type is FLAC but i have to have mp3 as creative are being twats and wont update their firmware to include it.

Winamp for music, WMP for videos.

I'm really getting in to songbird now as it has extensions (similar to firefox).

I wouldn't recommend it to people yet as the are only on release 0.3 so there is quite some distance to go, maybe another year before the final candidate.

Used to use Windows Media Player for most stuff, then it ballsed up a bit and wouldn't play any DivX/XviD so I just watch all avi files in VLC media player.

Since getting the iPod I use iTunes to play most music on my PC mainly because it tracks the number of plays and creates the most listened to playlist which can be nice. Other than that feature iTunes is balls as far as I'm concerned.

Just tried out Songbird. It looks a lot like iTunes, and imports libraries can be used to sync your iPod. There is a column for number of plays of songs but that doesn't seem to be populating for me. I don't think the most listened to playlist it imported is dynamic either.

There is no album art that I can see which is something I have gotten used to having in both media player and iTunes.

Plays the songs I downloaded from iTunes too which is nice.

I'll revisit it when newer versions are available but for now songbird isn't quite there for me, even with the zombies vs ninjas skin.

I will let you know how it goes.

The play count doesn't bother me as I couldn't care less about the number of plays a song has.

The album art is a plugin as far as I'm aware which will be built in to later builds.

Winamp, apparently it really whips the llama's ass.

I use DivX player for videos.

mp3 is my format of choice.

iTunes. It definately is not the best media player, but it means I can listen to other peoples music in my house in Bournemouth... yipee!

Otherwise, I'd use Winamp.

Darn tootin. Is last.fm not good enough for charting what you listen to?

I dont have iTunes because. imho, iPods are fucking shit. I would much rather use a cheap ass mp3 player than an iPod. I just use my PSP to listen to music.

My iPod was bought with the express intention of using it while running. I was using my phone but the iPod would track how far/fast I ran and strap conveniently to my arm. It's teeny too.

PSP's from memory are hulking great beasts.

Winamp. I'm really liking v.5.5, it has album art! And is a much nicer colour! And generally awesomerer!

But seriously now. Winamp. Since I was about 14 or 15 I think.

well songbird 0.6 is out and some of the plug ins are very good. has full support for ipod, audioscrobbler and is a web browser as well (based on firfox). Also give mashtape a go, it supplies so much infor on the artists you're listening to, brilliant.

Give it a try
